The Mother’s Teachings and Practices

a mini course taught by James Ryan, PhD

Four Sundays

April 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 2015
1:30 – 3:00 pm

2650 Fulton Street, San Francisco

The course will focus on the life, practice, and teachings of the Mother (Mirra Alfassa) drawing from the Mother’s Agenda, Georges van Vrekhem’s book and Satprem’s books: The Divine Materialism, Mind in the Cells, and The Mutation of Death.

The narrative will cover Mother’s amazing occult background in the West, her truly breath-taking record of yogic experience (kept secret until after her death), and the details of her fostering and development of the Pondicherry Ashram and Auroville.

As the Mother and Sri Aurobindo were, in a sense, one being in two bodies, no account of Mother can be made without reference to the life and yoga of Sri Aurobindo, as constant inspiration and backdrop to her sadhana.

Jim has taught Sanskrit and Indian Philosophy at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) for 33 years. A long time student of India and Indian culture, Jim developed an interest in the thought (and practice) of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother at the Institute, inspired by the work of Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri. This mini-course is a condensed version of a course he taught at CIIS in the Fall of 2014 entitld “The Mother and the Integral Tradition.”

Free will donation to benefit Cultural Integration Fellowship. All are welcome.
